Dear Taichung Happiers,
Believe it or not, Jeremy Lin has been making time for cooking. What an inspiration! http://www.jlin7.com/blogs/journal/15711312-thoughts-on-preseasonFrench author La Rochefoucauld (15 September 1613 – 17 March 1680) notably conveyed that "To eat is a necessity, but to eat intelligently is an art." So, can you recollect how we enjoyed our gourmet activities organized by Harris, our former Gourmet Master? Now, Harris also expects more sharing of raising the public awareness of food safety in Taiwan.
Food safety is such a big issue, yet it is not exclusively made in Taiwan. As English poet William Blake (28 November 1757 – 12 August 1827) remarked, “Hindsight is a wonderful thing but forsight is better, especially when it comes to saving life, or some pain”, let us learn more about how the New Food Safety Law is explained in the US. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y_LSrgbXA_w How we wish there is no scarcity of “customer-friendly” menus.
Food?
by Shel Silverstein (September 25, 1930 – May 10, 1999)
I was settin’ at this restaurant
When the waiter came up and said, “What do you want?”
I looked at the menu–it looked so nice
Till he said, “Let me give you a little advice.”
He said, “Spaghetti and potatoes got too much starch,
Pork chops and sausage are bad for your heart.
There’s hormones in chicken and beef and veal,
Bowl of ravioli is a dead man’s meal.
Bread’s got preservatives, there’s nitrites in ham,
Artificial coloring in jellies and jam.
Stay away from doughnuts, run away from pie,
Pepperoni pizza is a sure way to die.
………………..
………………..
So I got up from the table and walked out in the street,
Realizin’ there was absolutely nothing to eat.
So I haven’t eaten for a month and I don’t feel too fine,
But I know that I’ll be healthy for a long, long time.
Speaking of healthy eating, what can be more important than re-examining how cooking can add value to our life? Maya Adam, a medical doctor and founder of nonprofit organization Just Cook for Kids, strikingly used love affair as a metaphor for our relationship with food and offered her heart-warming family stories. Moreover, instead of giving long dietetic advice, she concluded her speech with a memorable reminder—“Make the food you eat be worthy of you, and let them be made with love.” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-gyIkA-crMWe need the Michelangelo in the kitchen to complete art of food; we need the Aristotle in the kitchen to raise our minds. To eat, or not to eat? May this be no longer a question to ask!
We wish everyone well for a long, long time.
Best Wishes,
Jasmine
