Dear Taichung Happiers,

What can be more gorgeous than the faces lingering on books?
http://www.bbc.com/culture/story/20170116-striking-photos-of-readers-around-the-world?ocid=ww.social.link.facebook

Do you eat books for breakfast? While encountering books, we simply know we are in the presence of greatness. What books are you now eagerly anticipating? What book were you tangoing with when you first felt enlightened by reading? How did you feel while ensuring books are your die-hard life-long friends? While reading, we are aware of a sentiment like that of a tire filled with sustaining air; we feel, increasingly as we read on, a sense of surge and serenity. B.F. Skinner (March 20, 1904 – August 18, 1990), an American psychologist, author, inventor, and social philosopher, admonished us that “We shouldn't teach great books; we should teach a love of reading. Knowing the contents of a few works of literature is a trivial achievement. Being inclined to go on reading is a great achievement.” Books are water—the sustainable resource—for our rational and emotional connections. Books transcend our limitations. Books fly us to a whole new world. A dedication to reading will lead to true happiness in our lives, personally and professionally. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to join our host Yang in sharing our passion and love of reading, our reading experiences, and our expectations for reading and books.

Whenever, wherever, books are asking “What can I help you with?" Oh, hey, “The first rule of Hobbit Club is there's no tolkien about The Hobbit Club.” Every journey is a river—books are water. How calm must be the language of the River, when books, the water, can keep us from being afraid and being alone. The river. The river says most when it says least. In the water, we can hear the silent symphony of other voices, knowledge, confidence, and inspiration, singing and echoing, thickening and thickening. American academic Charles William Eliot (March 20, 1834 – August 22, 1926), who was selected as President of Harvard University in 1869, recounted the roles books play. “Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.” Therefore, read more, read more than you “can” is the best way of self education. Mr. 詹宏志 , one of the most respected “reader” from Taiwan, pointed out that as long as we open the right door, reading can help building any skills. Wholeheartedly and precisely, he perceived that it is a blessing, an enormous blessing, to be a life-long reader.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AFbGEC-Yecs Yes. Reading gives us great pleasure. Books can show us the world, shining, shimmering, splendid. All along the reading process, we finally figure out that our minds are trying to take in something-- something that our minds couldn’t take in--to savor the language, to see something new, and to witness our ingenuity, curiosity, and creativity amazingly aroused. As a result, it helps drive us forward in our work and everyday life. https://medium.com/the-mission/reading-books-will-help-you-build-these-7-habits-184713effb54 Reading is the best workout for brain cells. Reading helps gain knowledge and forces our imagination to work. Most importantly, readers Are Leaders; leaders are readers. Readers are made, not born. Read to enhance our insight. Read to broaden and deepen our perspectives. Read to lead. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mayUsEyhASc&app=desktop

Do you write your favorite book quote on the wall? ”Starting a cover band called "A Book" so no one can judge us.” All right, our job as readers, apparently, is the pursuit of happiness. Now, close your eyes and tell us how you design your summer reading challenge? https://www.bookbub.com/blog/2018/05/11/summer-reading-challenge-2018-list Irish poet and playwright Oscar Wilde (16 October 1854 – 30 November 1900) simply put “It is what you read when you don’t have to that determines what you will be when you can’t help it.”
After all, there might not be a measure for the happiness of reading, yet, there must be beauty, decency, and eternal constancy. What to read to have a better quality of life? A healthy and happy bookaholic never lets the presumption shrink the breadth of reading.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n8-X66KCwTY&app=desktop What books give you book-hangover the most often? How do you define literature? How can literature elevate our moral sentiments? Where does literature’s empowering force come from? Literature is the greatest reality simulator, and we learn from their experiences in family, friendship, relationship, etc. Literature reflects indescribable feeling, soaring, tumbling, freewheeling. Literature is a true time machine, which takes us wonder by wonder and introduces us to fascinating and interesting people living centuries or thousands years ago. One step closer, we’ll also acknowledge how MBA students can approach and apply the loveliness of literature. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kOIRwQ0ejQ0 Yes, we also benefit from self-development books, skill building books, and spiritual books. Moreover, we cannot afford to ignore non-fiction books about mindsets and directions, about personal and social intelligence, that illustrate different kinds of success. Reading allows us to imagine alternative possibilities for ourselves and for people surrounding us, and to make better changes in our lives. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwGbwYAfSmg&app=desktop

We don’t know we don’t know until we read, read, and, read. “I'm gonna write a book about the difficulties of watching Pride and Prejudice dubbed into French. It will be called L'Austen Translation” Boys and girls, control your breath, and, please meet this 3 year-old bookaholic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10-wmV9VinU While reading, our minds are like the interior of a great house, one in a constant renewal of self-discovery and a higher reality beyond our experiences. That is how reading heals. The second-time National Book Award winner Jesmyn Ward directs our eyes toward the sunlight. “You looked at me and at the people I love and write about–my poor, my black; my Southern children, women and men–and you saw yourself. You saw your grief, your love, your losses; your regrets, your joy, your hope.” Reading is more important than any passport to the world. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gDoy183prk Through books, we see people carrying other worlds with them; in books, we learn to reside in various worlds; from books, we discover what it means to join other worlds. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DzU5_TIVijA Reading seamlessly integrates our past and future. The memories of reading are delicious; we can ensure the future in a changing world by reading constantly, reading with deep thinking and critical analysis. Reading makes our inner and outer worlds mirror each other. Read to open the world wider--by helping people build reading skills and creating ravishing reading experiences for people in need. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8j123slEMU

From “HAI[NA]KU and other poems” (by A.A. Patawaran)

To read a poem
Is to see light where there is darkness
Is to hear silence where there is noise
Is to dance where there is no music
Is to sing where the only instrument is words
And the stirring, impassioned pauses

To be a reader is to be human. To be human is to love. With love, we conquer the frustration of the deepest need for meaning, for purpose, and for hope. Every journey is a river—books are water. Water knows of its own elegance and strength, and feels no need to exclaim it. (What makes you realize books have understood you, you might ask?) A rich culture of reading can make an enormous difference. How to cultivate a culture of loving to read? It starts from you, you, and you! Yet, it’s not for tangible profit that we look at books with deep and genuine admiration. Or not tangible profit only. It’s to bravely face the unknown. Read to broaden our minds; read to define culture competence; read to improve our culture competence. Culture, ours and others’. Understand the world to improve human condition. Books are our guardian angels looking after us--there is something about intelligence and curiosity in their eyes, that reminds us instantly of kindness. To be a reader is to be human. I hope everyone can feel a little changed, every time when we leave the gathering venue. To be a reader is to be human. Love books, love books for a thousand years, and love books for a thousand more.
