Please Note:
Venue:台中市南屯區 大業路182號 Mos Burger二樓
Thanks a lot for your attention.

Questions:
1. Have you ever heard about “circadian rhythm” (or biological clock) before? Please share your opinions with us.

2. How can environmental toxins (or environmental hormones), such as phthalate, bisphenol A, and polychlorinated biphenyls, impact physiological systems of the human body?

3. What are the sources of environmental toxins? How can we prevent exposure to them?

4. Can you believe environmental toxins can affect circadian rhythm? Is circadian rhythm associated with many chronic diseases, i.e., metabolic diseases, cancer, oxidative stress?

Dear Taichung Happiers,

Treat yourself with a tree!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tiwbf54evWw

When we're repeating something, there must be a reason for it. What I really want to repeat--in this Club, in every gathering, and in whatever, wherever we can reach--is the culture of passion and appreciation. How pleased we are to witness our Club culture of passion and appreciation again—our first-time host, Kevin Hsu, is leading us to learn more about the association between environmental toxins and health. Majoring in Life Science, Kevin Hsu is working for National Health Research Institutes with his research direction in Environmental Hormones and Toxicology. To help Happiers further understand this topic, Kevin Hsu will briefly introduce some Prize-winning discoveries during our free talk section. https://www.nobelprize.org/nobel_prizes/medicine/laureates/2017/press.html (In 2017, three American scientists were jointly awarded the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for their original discoveries , using the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, of molecular mechanisms regulating the circadian rhythm.) Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to join us in collecting our thoughts for the renewed efforts.

Why should we play the Symphony of Humans and Nature? How?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlupB-eECH0 Untidy as it might seem, the nature world gives us a feeling of spirit and strength. Nature is the mirror--what we are doing to the Nature is exactly a reflection of our relationships with ourselves, with others, and with the world. Sometimes, we have to pause for the invisible yet invaluable effect—listen to the whisper of the Earth, the streaming of the seasons, and the eternal silence of the sea, just like enjoying being with a childhood friend. Look, where are we now? Every place used to be someplace. Will Nature become a nostalgic theme to return to in future years? What kinds of difference can we make on culture by facilitating nature connections for every child? How will it impact people's health and well-being? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dl66XvVWCdM
William Shakespeare (April 26, 1564 –April 23, 1616), the greatest writer in the English language, simply asserted “One touch of nature makes the whole world kin.” Nevertheless, the astonishing challenge of growing awareness comes over and the fear of environmental exposure is leaking out of everyone in every direction. Noisy invasion isn't hard to impede. Yet, can we effectively eliminate the hidden killers in time? Environmental exposure represents the threat to involve us into a sense of defenselessness and debilitation. The most frustrating at all is having to witness children’s vulnerability to environmental chemicals, and it is all the more concerning because it has worldwide consequences; meanwhile, with the most unacceptable way of breathing air, who is exploiting people’s pain and loss? https://edition.cnn.com/2016/10/30/health/air-pollution-children-unicef/index.html How about food and water safety? Let Mother Nature go in for her own loving, divine way. The intelligence of the nature world bears some signature that cannot easily be disguised. Nature. Water and rivers made our culture and civilization; and, our culture and civilization have changed water and rivers. Wishing for healthy resources, let’s take one step further, shall we? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKFV9IquMXA

Trees. Ask not what trees can do for us—ask what we can do for trees. “Why are people always tired on Earth Day?” “Because they just finished a March.” Trust the nature; trust the environment; trust trees. Trees provide more than elegance and beauty—people present more than purchasers. Trees teach us empathy; trees allow a swell of emotion to envelope us; trees motivate admiration and compassion. To improve the environment, we have to love trees. To love trees, we have to understand them. Why should everyone be a tree hunter? What do you feel while getting into the woods? How can trees live memories? Trees clean water, filter air, and, simultaneously, tell stories. Trees. The way trees tell us the direction of seasons carries an air of expectation. Trees say most by saying least. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hHzWp1JV2hI Trees make our life easier. Surrounding ourselves with trees reduces our confusion and bitterness, physically and psychologically. Environmental philosopher John Muir (April 21, 1838 – December 24, 1914) proposed that “If people in general could be got into the woods, even for once, to hear the trees speak for themselves, all difficulties in the way of forest preservation would vanish.” In addition, we can’t have any technology as advanced as trees are. Trees. Trees don’t stand still—they grow—they are constantly changing. Trees. Going green changes our cities for better, forever, in terms of sustainability. https://www.nationalgeographic.com/environment/urban-expeditions/green-buildings/green-urban-landscape-cities-Singapore/ We need new inspiration—inspiration that embraces the cool color that helps us quickly recover from strain—if we are to live with the environmental burden that despite our wishful thinking about regaining our health in its full glory, has puzzled us like the shadow to our light. https://www.penguin.com.au/books/the-songs-of-trees-stories-from-natures-great-connectors-9781863959261

“One White Tree” (by J. R. R. Tolkien)

Tall ships and tall kings
Three times three.
What brought they from the foundered land
Over the flowing sea?
Seven stars and seven stones
And one white tree.

Compassion is contagious. Compassion is not in our fantasy. Compassion is not only imaginary. “Hedgehogs – why can’t they just share the hedge?” Environmental exposure takes the wind out of our sails. We are in deep waters. Environmental burden has watched us swimming further and further out. However, the beauty of compassion won’t fade away, neither will we be out of our depth. Everyone is a Nature superhero; every Nature Superhero is great by virtue of their ability to reassure you that you are not alone. In order to pursue the beauty of our Nature dreams and make positive choices and changes for ourselves and for future generations, we must re-envision the imbalance and re-embrace the force bigger than us. In other words, except for curiosity, it also requires determination and decisions for the fulfillment. In the book Hope Beneath Our Feet: Restoring Our Place in the Natural World, the author Martin Keogh admonishes us "When asked if I am pessimistic or optimistic about the future, my answer is always the same: if you look at the science about what is happening on earth and aren't pessimistic, you don't understand the data. But if you meet the people who are working to restore this earth and the lives of the poor, and you aren't optimistic, you haven't got a pulse." Well, what makes us optimistic is the truth that everyone is powerful—everyone can change one or two habits, which will change their lives, their families, and their communities—eventually, it forms the unstoppable force for goodness. Now, please allow me to remind Happiers again that social mission is not a magic thing--it's there in everyday life.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jeFHnYw0-pA Compassion is contagious. We build more by giving more. Most importantly, what we do in every small corner will spread quickly to and influence, encourage people in other corners of the world. Check out this incredible story, Sophia's Dream. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4rcWLvLsArI

What is the reason for the culture of passion and appreciation? Can the culture of passion and appreciation re-foster the mutual trust between humans and the natural environment? Nature heals. Nature makes us happier and healthier. Indeed, humans and Nature share the same resources and destiny collectively. “I believe that there is a subtle magnetism in Nature, which, if we unconsciously yield to it, will direct us alright”, said American essayist, poet, and philosopher Henry David Thoreau (July 12, 1817 – May 6, 1862). Nature--nature is the only answer; love--love is the resolve. Light. The earliest daylight can be seen at the edge of the curtains. Listen. Listen carefully, please. What are trees whispering in the woods? What are rivers whispering in our ears? Plant the echo for the future--positive changes take persistence and perseverance. May the force be with us. Join us. Thanks. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3bve7T-phg
