Discussion topic: PASSION
It was the first time that Rio played the role as a host. He wanted to find a topic which everybody could and would enjoy talking. The discussion article was from CNN, saying that one would need to find his passion in order to have a great career.
At the very beginning of the gathering, there was no table available at MOS Burger. And Rio was there wondering what to do. He called experienced members for help!! Fortunately, there was a girl, Show, who secured a table for us. And we started from that one table and ended up with 4 tables and 16 participants!! Probably it was because we were really talking to loud. Shall we be proud of it!? Probably YES!
The article for discussion was kind of interesting. Members and guests were expressing their ideas, comments, experiences, etc. That means, people do care about their jobs and most people want to pursue a passion for life and for work.
Q1: Do you have a passion for English? What do you do to keep yourself in touch with English? Or how do you train yourself?
Answers vary a lot. Everybody has his/her cup of tea. Some people tried listening to English teaching programs such as Studio Classroom; some others learn English by listening to English radios like ICRT; still others watch movies & soap operas in English. Moreover, a lady told us that she practiced her English by writing English diary!! Wow!!! The most difficult part came from a gentleman, and he learned English by memorizing the words in an English dictionary. Sounds amazing, right!?
Q2: Do you have a passion for your work? Please share with us about what you do (job description or function) and what you like or dislike at work? Or if you do not work now, just tell us something you enjoy doing, no matter what!
We have a well-experienced programmer who runs his program and invest in currency-exchange market. His knowhow in computer programming has led him to work as a self-employed person. Certainly he has a passion for this job.
Another young man, who is interested in finance and technology, enjoys his work in Hsinchu. Though he usually work 13 hours a day, he still has a passion for his work.
Another guy who worked in MacDonald’s told us that he learned a lot of new things at work. Though there would be some tough times, especially when HQ is reviewing every branches’ performance in sales and revenues.
Most people would agree that by doing some different jobs, we will step by step get to know more about ourselves and develop a passion probably.
Q3: Let’s go daydreaming! If you can create a job, and no worry about making a living, what would you like to do?
A lady shared with us that she would like to be a dancing teacher, because she enjoys dancing and has confidence that she would enjoy teaching dancing. That should be very nice for us to see her dancing next time.
The Hsinchu tech guy told us that he would like to organize and run a venture capital, since he is super interested in technology and finance. We can smell his success running the VC. He does have the talent to do VC.
The investor told us that he would like to run a NPO (Non Profit Organization) to help poor people. What a great idea to combine your dream with your job!! He will be an inventor and a donator for the NPO.
The MacDonald’s guy who enjoys travelling said he would like to be a backpacker and travel around the world. At the same time, he will be writing to share his traveling experience and guide other young people how to kick around the world!
Another female friend shared with us. She used to have a dream to be an English teacher. But now, she changed her mind. She has a passion for life. She is trying to meet people and learn to enjoy her life. She went to Karaoke classes and she learned belly dance!! We definitely need to see her dancing next time!
Q4: Besides your job, do you have a passion for something else? Have you ever tried very hard to pursue a passion? Share your stories with us!
Due to our limited time, only a few people shared their experiences. A brave man took few transfer-exam during his university life. So he started at Shuzhou University, then Chungzhang University and ended up at Taiwan University!! What an accomplishment! I admire him.
