Dear Taichung Happiers,

Family moral principle, No. 1: always allow your mom to chase you.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=elPCZSmiEsU

What does family mean to you? Oh, family. What is that uncontrollable urge to squeeze each other’s faces? We share a long look when, sometimes, family love is a mystery to us. In the Award–winning book Life of Pi, the Spanish-born Canadian author Yann Martel regards a mother as the sun above us; a father as a tree supporting its branches; a brother as someone with whom we can share the experience of growing old. Perhaps, that’s why so many Jewish institutions are providing educational programs with the child in mind and creating courageous family inclusive experiences. Perhaps, that’s like what French novelist, critic, and essayist Marcel Proust (10 July 1871 – 18 November 1922) had addressed, “After a certain age, and even if we develop in quite different ways, the more we become ourselves, the more our family traits are accentuated.” Family is the big umbrella, which protects us, either it’s sunny or not. Our parents are always there to raise us the right way, and nurture and guide us when we feel the pressure in our lungs. Family life has the most indescribable yet invaluable influence in shaping our character and pleasure. Family love propels us into action. How does your family make you the hero of your family story? Hey, X’mas is approaching! When it comes to X’mas and family, everything is open and beautiful beyond measure. Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, welcome to join us on this “confession” time.

Family love needs no reasons; family love needs no theories. Teacher: "Which book has helped you the most in your life?" Student: "My father's check book!" In every family, everyone’s future is determined by only three connected things. Love. Forgiveness. Sacrifice. Whatever family issues that matter to us most, every memory of every family is weaved with love. What kind of love do you wish you could have given to your family?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhmOfqHJQ64 My first memories of my family were the sound of my mom’s smile and the shape of my dad’s eyes. The silent sound of my mom’s smile when she passed the soup to me; the shape of my dad’s eyes when my bigger sister started learning handwriting—his hand seamlessly wrapped my bigger sister’s—together, their hands sailed across the paper. Sure enough, we know family love can get hard sometimes. However, living in family love is living in truth. German philosopher, cultural critic, composer, and poet Friedrich Nietzsche depicted the pictures of family love in our minds. “In family life, love is the oil that eases friction, the cement that binds closer together, and the music that brings harmony.” Every family is a giving tree, an evergreen tree. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFQZfeHq9wo In the years of growing up, I argued with my family sometimes. (For example, I argued with my mom and stopped talking to her for 3 days, when she thought, being in a hurry, I shouldn’t have minded having a red dress with a pair of green shoes.) Without my parents’ forgiveness, my ignorance would have turned me into another person. Parents’ love is 200% unconditional. They give up too much before we know we are loved. Parents’ sacrifice is--to some extent--an extreme sacrifice, giving us the gift of resilience and self-confidence. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gG9YHMcLK2Q Oh, family! Love, forgiveness, and sacrifice raise every family up.

How do you make your family smile? “Last Father's Day my son gave me something I always wanted: the keys to my car.” How to hold the hard-to-catch family happiness—to bring it to life in our hands? Cooking together is a magnetism that controls our family and makes our smiles linger longer. Thus, let us prepare some home cook recipes for this upcoming X’mas, shall we? Hey, what will grandma say about this?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKnfHdcsa8A Besides, to create a meaningful family vacation is to grasp the golden opportunity to embrace a healthy sense of each other’s imperfections. We make family memories for ourselves--where our eyes are never closing, and hearts are never broken--times are forever frozen still. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CuhbYpgqCA&app=desktop Now, here comes the family with the reluctance to indulge in unawareness. Professor Randy Pausch (October 23, 1960 – July 25, 2008), the author of the book The Last Lecture, had family dinner with a dictionary every night. “We'd end up consulting the dictionary, which we kept on a shelf just six steps from the table. ‘If you have a question,’ my folks would say, ‘then find the answer.’” Wonderful, isn’t it? Of course, there are alternative ways for your family reading time. https://www.humanities.org/program/family-reading/ Having enormous impact on modern European history, French military and political leader Napoléon Bonaparte (15 August 1769 – 5 May 1821) encouraged family reading like no other. “Show me a family of readers, and I will show you the people who move the world.” Yes. That is how the voice of quality time cuts through the silence.

Family teaches Compassion. Family teaches us how not to exhaust our reserves of compassion.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eM2tblIkL4g However you define family, being a member of a bigger family matters. A bigger family can be an organization, a community, or a society. Improve the Serving Mindset. Enhance the significance of our services. Have a cup of coffee and think about it through this film. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52bORzIODec In some corners of the world, light and darkness can co-exist simultaneously. In some corners of the world, people are torn between love and hatred for some reasons. In some corners of the world, some people don’t so much as breathe in a way that might suggest what their family truly looks like and looks forward to. https://podcast.readmoo.com/ohclassics/detail/20181206 It is a big world, a big family, and the possibilities are endless. Everyone should command the power to treat people like people. Above all, opportunities always manage to find us, most typically at various milestones. Everything starts with education. The founding director of the Award-winning SJSU Salzburg Program, Dr. William Reckmeyer reassures us about it. To be better global citizens, all we have to do is having the faith to disrupt ourselves, diversify our learning, and develop more connections to help each other. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdEwSXFniIg&app=desktop

From “Christmas” (by Sir John Betjeman)

No love that in a family dwells,
No carolling in frosty air,
Nor all the steeple-shaking bells
Can with this single Truth compare -
That God was man in Palestine
And lives today in Bread and Wine.

Family love opens every door. Family love leads us in celebration of our faith. Eventually, it is understandable. We got confused. We thought it is blood that makes what we are—it definitely makes us a family and gives us a sense of responsibility—but blood is not what we depend on. It is something more. It is the love, the forgiveness. The sacrifices. The sacrifices for our family, our organization, and our society. Love is the only thing to compose family music of our own. Eventually, we realize that, in every family, there were moments of apparent worries. Or, sometimes, a distant and deep sigh. Eventually, we realize nobody in any family should be left behind. Family love helps us get by. Days. Nights. Years. Brad Henry, an American lawyer and the 26th Governor of Oklahoma remarkably reminded us: “Families are the compass that guides us. They are the inspiration to reach great heights, and our comfort when we occasionally falter.” What’s more, the consensus on our Happy Family is greatly appreciated. Together, in this big Family, we believe in each other. Together, in this big Family, we learn better and laugh louder. Together, in this big Family, we respect the language of heart. The heart of light. Good old light. Good new light. The light increases. Join us. Thanks!!!
