Dear Taichung Happiers,

What happens in school—kindergarten vs University?
Kindergarten:

University: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rc9tqINb32E

“Perfect practice makes perfect”, the advice my favorite teacher gave me, keeps ringing in my ears. Meanwhile, I’d like to inform you of something about our host Joey, such a marvelous member. Before most of you joined our Club, Joey had often played the role of “the firefighter” for hosting our gatherings, once kidnapped the high school boy at the next table to join us, and even furiously fascinated Vicki with the QR Code tutorial. Having earned his Master degree in 2016, Joey’s New Year’s Resolution is to join our gathering more often. Ladies and gentlemen, brothers and sisters, welcome to join Joey on this education topic and turn “perfect practice makes perfect” into our reality.

Every student is an art superhero—teachers are curators. Sports, arts, technologies, or literature……., whatever students are learning, they are art superheroes proving the precise purpose of learning is believing in and exhibiting themselves. The learning process, not result, is the work of art—even a beautiful mistake can be a perfectly perfect solution to the next surprising context.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JgYhukCCFR8 Plato, the philosopher in Classical Greece, asserted, “Education is not as the filling of a vessel, but as the turning the eye of the soul towards the light.” What students truly need most is the teacher to ignite the light; what students truly need most is the curator to organize and maintain their creative leaning processes. No worries, great teachers are not so hard to find as true love. Ta-Da~~~ http://www.economist.com/news/leaders/21700383-what-matters-schools-teachers-fortunately-teaching-can-be-taught-how-make-good?fsrc=scn/le/te/pe/ed/howtomakeagoodteacher Moreover, to reinforce students’ confidence to conquer the inevitable adversities along the journey, what students truly need most is the mutual trust between teachers and students. The film The Man Who Knew Infinity says it best. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NP0lUqNAw3k

Every student is a performer in the Symphony Orchestra—teachers are conductors leading performers in distinguished directions. Brilliant teachers cherish students’ communication and collaboration. How? Greek philosopher Aristotle, the Master of Hidden Treasures, had the key. “Educating the mind without educating the heart is no education at all.” Why? Well, Kid President gives you the reasons to grow a heart of gratitude! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yA5Qpt1JRE4 However, the heart is the most important yet difficult to educate, you might say so? Hummm…, therefore, we’d better teach kids empathy as early as possible. https://qz.com/763289/denmark-has-figured-out-how-to-teach-kids-empathy-and-make-them-happier-adults/ Furthermore, all we really need to know we learned in kindergarten; most importantly, we learned from the natural world, which cultivates a mind of curiosity and a heart of love and beauty. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jkiij9dJfcw

Every student is seeking the cornerstone of critical and creative thinking to solve problems—teachers are nostalgic architects focusing on a better future. Former South Africa President Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela (18 July 1918 – 5 December 2013) has regarded education as the most powerful weapon to change the world. Above all, how to implement global education with patience and perspectives? Libraries must be the must of musts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHc3tNl68pA&app=desktop Besides, education + imagination + prodigious passion = innovation. Check out how these young innovators are solving world’s problems! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEBkEepNq6c So, we can’t wait to see the world as a big big playground—where we read Basketball, write Brunch, sing VR games, and dance on the road not taken; where we cook sports, arts, technologies, and literature with the spice made of the voice from our hearts; where the whisper of the breeze soothes every soul equally.

From “Where the Sidewalk Ends” (by Shel Silverstein)

Past the pits where the asphalt flowers grow
We shall walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And watch where the chalk-white arrows go
To the place where the sidewalk ends.

Yes we'll walk with a walk that is measured and slow,
And we'll go where the chalk-white arrows go,
For the children, they mark, and the children, they know
The place where the sidewalk ends.

Twenty years from now, what will you remember about Happy English Club? We’ll remember this splendid journey of sharing--it prepares us for the future--I really appreciate it. Looking forward to keeping learning and enjoying wonderful weekends together. Join us. Thanks!!!
