Questions:
1. One tradition of Halloween is the telling of scary stories. Do you know any scary stories?

2. There are some similarities between Halloween and the Chinese Ghost Festival; do you follow the traditions and rules of Ghost Month?

3. The celebration of Halloween has origins in remembering the dead and confronting the concept of death with humor. How do you think about death?

4. These days, people don’t just wear scary costumes in Halloween. They wear costumes based on many things, including popular news stories and politicians, and even sexy themes. There are some new developed practices of Ghost Month, too (ex. burning the latest fashion things made of paper), how do you feel about those new developed practices?

5. Many traditional practices involve superstition. Do you think that we should transmit those traditional practices from generation to generation?

Before starting our article, let’s play a little game. Everyone is required to prepare a few Chinese or Taiwanese phrases, idioms, or slangs(中文或台語的成語及俚語) and give your phrases or idioms to someone beside you. The person who receives the phases or idioms has to describe it in English and follow some rules as below.
1. You must pick one of those phrases or idioms that you receive and describe that in what situations you will use those phases, idioms, or slangs.
2. You can’t just translate those phases, idioms, or slangs in English.
3. You can’t mention any words in those phrases or idioms that you receive.

For example, if your phrase is “水噹噹”,you can’t literally or figuratively translate it in English or mention any word about water, rings, or bells. You must describe that in what situation you will use this phrase and let our members guess it. Anyone who gets the right answer will receive a decent gift. However, anyone breaking the rules mentioned above will get a little punishment.
Don’t pick up too simple or difficult phrases or idioms. Please make it a slightly challenging but not excessive game. Everyone needs to prepare at least 3 phrases or idioms. And it will be welcomed if you could bring some special candies or snacks. So prepare for that and have fun.

Dear Taichung Happiers,

Drone + Halloween =?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V_LC_jmTmas

Happy Halloween! Despite not knowing that there are real ghosts and goblins, American author Robert Brault always encounters more trick-or-treaters than neighborhood kids. Love it? Hereby, we are so excited to invite you to our Halloween Party. What will Mos Burger look like on this Saturday? Boo! Which scary story will make us scream together? Who will win the fun game? Ladies and gentlemen, brothers and sisters, welcome to join our host Gary in tripping into the curious corners of the magic world. Buckle up—and, wave your wand.

Has “The Lord of the Rings” or Harry Potter cast a spell on you to help you see the world beyond?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MnapHA2OCoU Oh, you might prefer a Halloween Reading Challenge. All right, what book will you choose? http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/spooky-books-halloween-reading_us_57f56dfae4b0b7aafe0bca01?481qdz5nog4g3nmi%3Fncid=inblnkushpmg00000007 Irish poet W.B. Yeats (June 13, 1865 – January 28, 1939), one of the foremost figures of 20th century literature, contemplated where our long-lasting love for magic comes from. “The world is full of magic things, patiently waiting for our senses to grow sharper.” Then, can you imagine that you are a curator? How will you select, settle, and sustain the art works in the Museum of Magic and Witchcraft? No worries—you don’t come to the ideas—the ideas come to you. Enjoy the story “What Do You Do With an Idea” and let it shine your way to communicate the power of magic. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sVOEniyFthY

Fear and fun are the core (yet mutually contradictory) themes of Halloween; finding our fun to release the tension and intense fear at the right moment rationalizes the party. Author and psychologist Henry C. Link (1889 - 1952) explained what fear is exhorting. “Fear is nature's warning signal to get busy.” Therefore, what would you like to be busy with? Trick-or-treating is definitely a must. Travel to Ireland, where Halloween was first celebrated? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuPlr01jtm0 Or, taste the delicious spell of the Room on the Broom? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWB0goTWZic Either ways you will be happy, for you are elevated by the new form of representation and action. Most importantly, how to balance fun and fear? This story Fuzzy Mud is a rich source of inspiration for all of us. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_4V_Qj0uzLE

What does magic truly mean to you? For German writer and statesman Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe (28 August 1749 – 22 March 1832), “Magic is believing in yourself, if you can do that, you can make anything happen.” Well, we fully understand that believing in ourselves is much more than a “quote, unquote” thing. However, in the Commencement Speech to Harvard graduates, the renowned filmmaker Steven Spielberg’s eyes lighted with a hundred little changing expressions of intelligence and character—he revealed his gratitude to his 99-year-old father’s steadfast support and requested the graduates not to shy away from the world’s pain. “Instead, examine it, challenge it, and, while you’re at it, find ‘a villain to vanquish’”. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYtoDunfu00

“Magic” (by Shel Silverstein)

Sandra's seen a leprechaun,
Eddie touched a troll,
Laurie danced with witches once,
Charlie found some goblins' gold.
Donald heard a mermaid sing,
Susy spied an elf,
But all the magic I have known
I've had to make myself.

When it comes to magic, please forever remember that you are already awesome—American physician, philosopher, and author Dr. Debasish Mridha planted a kiss for the power of magic—“Plant the seed of desire in the field of imagination to grow the harvest of invention.” Without further ado, let the season of harvest begin! Join us. Thanks.
