Dear Taichung Happiers,

Mr. Joke is managing the typhoon after-mess. Let’s give him a break. Now, seriously, guess what Kid President was Booking Forward?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xXZhXTFWnE

We are not learning English only for the language itself. Yes, we are breathing the language; more importantly, we are living in the world. Ralph Waldo Emerson (May 25, 1803 – April 27, 1882), the leading voice of intellectual culture in the United States, simply put “Thought is the blossom; language the bud; action the fruit behind it”. During our language-learning journey, the bud forms a shoot as we are acutely aware of how we interpret the world and interact with it. Then, why don’t we make the language-learning and our worldviews forge each other? Welcome to join our host Yang for digging deeper.

What inspiration have you found from the culture shock you encountered?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_eyQsnj2JJA And, why Worldviews? Well, when the King of Pop Michael Jackson “unofficially” met our best friend Albert Einstein, the spark says it best. What Albert Einstein was holding is “The world as we have created it is a process of our thinking. It cannot be changed without changing our thinking”, and Michael Jackson saw the light: “The chaos, despair, and senseless destruction we see today are a result of the alienation that people feel from each other and their environment.” Whatever Global issue you pay more attention to, the world is an unfinished book, a collective creation--everyone is an author writing the life story about the world he or she understands. If we can change our thinking by accurately assessing our cultural awareness and overcoming culture differences, will more endurance and a better world be guaranteed? Let’s check out why international lawyer Peter Alfandary has prioritized and heavily promoted the education on cultural intelligence. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xUYNB4a8d2U

When we find the profound love for the world, our worldviews will be shaped by how we think, recognize right and wrong, and choose actions to cope with what is right and what is wrong. The spiritual awakening discovers the deep desire to construct connectedness. Award-winning Egyptian writer Alaa Al Aswany advocates the sustainable solution. “Literature changes our vision, our understanding, the way we see. And people who are changed by literature, in turn, will be more capable to change the situation.” http://www.theatlantic.com/entertainment/archive/2015/08/by-heart-joe-fassler-egygtian-alaa-al-aswany-dostoyevsky/401549/ Therefore, read more—and read more literature—let it affirm more choices and inform more chances. Besides, reading’s magic twin brother, travel, can also exert a strong influence on our worldviews. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/09/25/travel-shape-world-view_n_3963729.html Oh, and I prefer a warm little book while traveling. Yes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Rqcqb-96Dg

How to develop a world view with answers to the problem of taste and aesthetics? Why? Best known for his book Walden, American essayist and philosopher Henry David Thoreau (July 12, 1817 – May 6, 1862) guided our world thrill: “This curious world we inhabit is more wonderful than convenient; more beautiful than it is useful; it is more to be admired and enjoyed than used.” True. Nevertheless, in some occasions, it is so crashing to us when the world is wounded. Hey,,, turn around and smile. Art heals anyway, not by letting you escape, but by stealing your own and others’ hearts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26Ofj4hOVpA Moreover, the highest level of taste and aesthetics is to be more compassionate and give more--for opening more opportunities and understandings. http://en.newsner.com/this-fourth-grader-is-bringing-color-into-the-lives-of-students-everywhere/about/wow,news No worries. We always have more to give than we thought. So, what will you Book Forward today?

From “The Paradoxical Commandments” (by Kent M. Keith)

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
Love them anyway.
If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.
If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies.
Succeed anyway.
The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.

So, why English? Austrian-British philosopher Ludwig Josef Johann Wittgenstein (26 April 1889 – 29 April 1951) admonished us enthusiastically: “The limits of my language mean the limits of my world.” Once again, please allow me to remind Happiers that if you love English, you should love English for one thousand more years. Join us. Thanks.
